Medu Vada:
In this video, let’s see how to make crispy and tasty medu vada at home.Most of us struggle to get a perfect shape while making this vada. I have included tips and tricks to get a perfect shape, which I have learned from my mother. Friends, do give a try to this tasty recipe and share your valuable feedback.
Ingredients:
Urad dhal - 1 cup
Green chilly - 2
Ginger - 1 inch piece (Chopped)
Onion - 1
Curry leaves - few
Salt - as required
Hing - 1/4 tsp (a generous pinch)
Oil - for deep frying
Recipe:
- Wash the urad dhal well in water and soak for around 1-2 hours.
- Drain the water and add to a mixie jar.
- Add water little by little and grind it a fine paste.
- Transfer this to a bowl.
- Add finely chopped green chilly, ginger, onion and curry leaves.
- Add required salt and a generous pinch of hing.
- Mix everything well.
- Beat the batter well with a spoon, so that the air incorporates well in the batter. Beating the batter well gives tasty and crispy vada.
- Now heat oil in a pan.
- Use a banana leaf or any plastic cover.
- Wet you hand and the sheet.
- Take a small portion of the dough.
- Dip water in your fingers and make it round.
- Dip a finger in water and make a hole at the centre.
- Now carefully remove from the sheet and drop in hot oil.
- Turn sides and cook on both sides until golden brown.
- Tasty, crispy vada is ready. Serve it with coconut chutney, hot cup of tea/coffee and enjoy!
Notes:
- Even though the finger prints are there while dropping the vadas, it will become fine after some time.
- Make sure to beat the batter for crispy and tasty vada.
- If the batter becomes thin, you could adjust the consistency by adding rice flour or sooji.
- You can also add pepper corns and chopped coriander leaves to the batter.
