Beans usili 



In this post, let’s see how to make Tamilnadu style of making beans usili. This goes well with hot rice, vathakuzhambu (spicy, tangy gravy)and papad. Friends, do give a try to this tasty recipe and share your feedback.


Ingredients :

Chana dhal - 1/4 cup

Toor dhal - 1/4 cup

Red chilly - 3

Hing - 1/4 tsp

Oil - 2 tbsp

Mustard - 1/2 tsp

Urad dhal - 1/2 tsp

Curry leaves - few

Chopped beans - 1 cup (200gm)

Salt - as required

Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp


Recipe:

  1. Soak chana dhal and toor dhal in water for around 1 hour.
  2. Drain the water and add to a mixie jar.
  3. Add red chilly, hing and grind this to a coarse mixture. Keep it aside
  4. Place an idle stand or any steam plate in a vessel filled with little water.
  5. Make dumplings of the ground mixture and steam cook for around 5-7 minutes.
  6. Remove from stove and let it cool down completely.
  7. Crumble with your hands and keep aside.
  8. Now in a pan, add little oil.
  9. Add mustard seeds. Let it splutter.
  10. Add urad dhal, red chilly and few curry leaves.
  11. Add around 1 cup of chopped beans.
  12. Add little water and salt. Cover and cook this until soft.
  13. Add turmeric powder and mix well.
  14. Finally add the steam cooked dhal. Check salt and add salt if required.
  15. If the mixture looks dry, add around 1 tbsp of oil.
  16. Mix well and simmer for around 5 minutes.
  17. Tasty beans usili ready!
