Beans usili
In this post, let’s see how to make Tamilnadu style of making beans usili. This goes well with hot rice, vathakuzhambu (spicy, tangy gravy)and papad. Friends, do give a try to this tasty recipe and share your feedback.
Ingredients :
Chana dhal - 1/4 cup
Toor dhal - 1/4 cup
Red chilly - 3
Hing - 1/4 tsp
Oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Urad dhal - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Chopped beans - 1 cup (200gm)
Salt - as required
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Recipe:
- Soak chana dhal and toor dhal in water for around 1 hour.
- Drain the water and add to a mixie jar.
- Add red chilly, hing and grind this to a coarse mixture. Keep it aside
- Place an idle stand or any steam plate in a vessel filled with little water.
- Make dumplings of the ground mixture and steam cook for around 5-7 minutes.
- Remove from stove and let it cool down completely.
- Crumble with your hands and keep aside.
- Now in a pan, add little oil.
- Add mustard seeds. Let it splutter.
- Add urad dhal, red chilly and few curry leaves.
- Add around 1 cup of chopped beans.
- Add little water and salt. Cover and cook this until soft.
- Add turmeric powder and mix well.
- Finally add the steam cooked dhal. Check salt and add salt if required.
- If the mixture looks dry, add around 1 tbsp of oil.
- Mix well and simmer for around 5 minutes.
- Tasty beans usili ready!
