Red velvet cake
On the occasion of Valentine’s Day we are going to see how to make red velvet cake easily at home in this post. Friends ,do give a try to this recipe and surprise your loved ones.
Ingredients :
Eggs - 2
Sugar - 1/2 cup
Vanilla essence - 1/2 tsp
Oil - 1/4 cup
Buttermilk - 1/3 cup
All purpose flour/ maida - 1 cup
Baking powder - 1/2 tsp
Baking soda - 1/2 tsp
Salt - a pinch
Vinegar - 1 tsp
For sugar syrup:
Water - 1/2 cup
Sugar - 2 tbsp
For cream cheese frosting:
Cream cheese - 175 gm
Powdered sugar - 1/3 cup
Vanilla essence - 1/2 tsp
Whip cream / fresh cream - 3/4 cup(200gm)
Recipe :
- Grease the baking mould with little oil or butter.
- Line it with parchment sheet or dust with some flour and keep it aside.
- In a bowl, add eggs, sugar, vanilla essence and beat well.
- Now add in oil, buttermilk and a pinch of red colour. You can also use beetroot juice instead of artificial food colour.
- Mix everything well.
- Now sift all purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and a pinch of salt.
- Mix the dry and wet ingredients together.
- Now in a separate bowl, add baking soda and vinegar. It starts to bubble.
- Add this finally to the cake batter and mix well.
- Pour in the batter to the baking tray.
- Divide the batter equally in two pans and tap it twice.
- Preheat the oven and bake at 180 degrees Celsius for around 10 minutes.
- Check if it’s done by inserting a toothpick or a knife.
- It should come out clean.
- Let the cake cool down completely.
- Prepare sugar syrup by boiling water and sugar. Boil until sugar melts and keep it aside until it cools.
- To prepare cream cheese frosting, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla essence until soft.
- In a separate bowl, beat whip cream/ fresh cream using hand whisk until soft peaks.
- Add in cream cheese mixture and fold in using a spatula.
- Refrigerate the cream until use.
- For assembling the cake, keep one layer of cake.
- Brush the cake well with sugar syrup.
- Keep 1 or 2 tbsp of cream and spread it evenly using a spatula.
- Place another layer of cake and repeat the same.
- Spread the cream all over the cake.
- Finally decorate with some fresh strawberries or with cake crumbs.
- Cut and serve the red velvet cake and enjoy !
