On the occasion of Valentine’s Day we are going to see how to make red velvet cake easily at home in this post. Friends ,do give a try to this recipe and surprise your loved ones.


Ingredients :

Eggs - 2

Sugar - 1/2 cup 

Vanilla essence - 1/2 tsp

Oil - 1/4 cup

Buttermilk - 1/3 cup

All purpose flour/ maida - 1 cup

Baking powder - 1/2 tsp

Baking soda - 1/2 tsp

Salt - a pinch 

Vinegar - 1 tsp


For sugar syrup:

Water - 1/2 cup

Sugar - 2 tbsp


For cream cheese frosting:

Cream cheese - 175 gm

Powdered sugar - 1/3 cup

Vanilla essence - 1/2 tsp

Whip cream / fresh cream - 3/4 cup(200gm)





Recipe :

  1. Grease the baking mould with little oil or butter.
  2. Line it with parchment sheet or dust with some flour and keep it aside.
  3. In a bowl, add eggs, sugar, vanilla essence and beat well.
  4. Now add in oil, buttermilk and a pinch of red colour. You can also use beetroot juice instead of artificial food colour.
  5. Mix everything well.
  6. Now sift all purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and a pinch of salt.
  7. Mix the dry and wet ingredients together.
  8. Now in a separate bowl, add baking soda and vinegar. It starts to bubble.
  9. Add this finally to the cake batter and mix well.
  10. Pour in the batter to the baking tray.
  11. Divide the batter equally in two pans and tap it twice.
  12. Preheat the oven and bake at 180 degrees Celsius for around 10 minutes.
  13. Check if it’s done by inserting a toothpick or a knife.
  14. It should come out clean. 
  15. Let the cake cool down completely.
  16. Prepare sugar syrup by boiling water and sugar. Boil until sugar melts and keep it aside until it cools.
  17. To prepare cream cheese frosting, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla essence until soft.
  18. In a separate bowl, beat whip cream/ fresh cream using hand whisk until soft peaks. 
  19. Add in cream cheese mixture and fold in using a spatula.
  20. Refrigerate the cream until use.
  21. For assembling the cake, keep one layer of cake.
  22. Brush the cake well with sugar syrup. 
  23. Keep 1 or 2 tbsp of cream and spread it evenly using a spatula.
  24. Place another layer of cake and repeat the same.
  25. Spread the cream all over the cake.
  26. Finally decorate with some fresh strawberries or with cake crumbs.
  27. Cut and serve  the red velvet cake and enjoy  !
