Beetroot vada
Beetroot vada is a South Indian style vada recipe using chana dhal and beetroot flavoured with ginger , chilly and many other ingredients. The dhal is ground along with beetroot and then mixed with other ingredients for flavouring to give an additional taste and then deep fried in oil . This vada is a slight twist to the usual masala vada . Friends, please do give a try to this recipe and share your feedback.
Ingredients :
Chana dhal - 1 cup
Red chilly - 1
Grated beetroot - 1 cup
Green chilly - 1
Chopped ginger - 2 tbsp
Chopped onion - 1
Chopped coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
Chopped curry leaves - 2 tbsp
Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida or hing - 1/4 tsp ( a generous pinch )
Salt - as required
Oil - for frying
Recipe :
- Soak chana dhal in water for about 2 hours .
- Drain the water and add it to a mixer jar.
- Add red chilly and grated beetroot.
- Grind it to a coarse mixture .
- Add the ground mixture to a bowl .
- Add green chilly , chopped ginger, onion, coriander leaves , curry leaves , fennel seeds , hing and required salt .
- Mix well .
- Roll into small balls, flatten it to round shape.
- Then drop it in hot oil and deep fry .
- When one side is fried well , turn to the other .
- Crispy tasty beetroot vada is ready ! Serve it with a hot cup of tea and enjoy !
Notes :
- If the batter leaves some water after adding onions, add little rice flour to adjust the consistency.
- Make sure the oil is hot enough for frying vada. This will help to reduce excess oil absorption.
