BLACK FOREST CAKE IN IDLY COOKER




Black Forest cake is a chocolate cake layered with fresh cherries and whipped cream . The actual origin of this cake is Germany , because of a place in northwestern part of Germany called Black Forest . The taste of the cake differs from place to place . 

The  cake shown in this video  is a no egg recipe . This is made by using a eggless chocolate cake layered with freshly made cherry syrup and whipped cream . In this video , I have made the cake using an idly cooker and the fresh cream is whipped using a hand whisk , which we use for beating eggs . So this recipe requires no oven and no electric blender. This is a very easy recipe. Let's quickly check out the recipe.





Ingredients :
To prepare cake :
Curd - 1/2 cup
Oil - 1/4 cup
Vanilla essence - 1 tsp
Sugar - 1/2 cup
All purpose flour - 3/4 cup
Cocoa powder - 1/4 cup
Baking powder - 1/2 tsp
Baking soda - 1/4 tsp
Salt - 1/4 tsp

To prepare cherry syrup :

Chopped cherries - 1/4 cup
Sugar - 3 tbsp 
Water - 1/4 cup

To prepare whip cream :

Whip cream - 2 cup
Sugar - 1/4 cup
Vanilla essence - 1 tsp

To prepare chocolate shavings :

Dark chocolate - 150 gm

Recipe :

  1. In a bowl , add curd , oil, vanilla essence, sugar and beat well .
  2. To this , add sifted all purpose flour, cocoa powder , baking powder , baking soda and salt .
  3. Mix all well .
  4. Add 1/2 cup milk gradually and fold everything well .
  5. Add 2 cups salt in an idly cooker and heat the cooker in medium flame for 5 minutes . 
  6. Now place the cake batter inside and bake the cake for 50-55 minuets in medium flame .
  7. Check if the cake is done by inserting a toothpick or knife .
  8. Cool the cake completely .

To prepare cherry syrup :

  1. Add chopped cherries , sugar and water and boil for 5 minutes until sugar dissolves .

To prepare whip cream :

  1. Before preparing the whip cream, place the vessel and whisk in freezer for 30 minutes.
  2. Add whip cream , powdered sugar , vanilla essence and beat until soft peaks appear.
  3. It usually takes  5-10 minutes .
  4. Keep the whip cream in fridge until use .

To prepare chocolate shavings :

  1. Scrap the dark chocolate with a peeler .

To assemble :

  1. Cut the cake into two .
  2. Spread 1-2 tbsp of cherry syrup .
  3. Place 2 tbsp of whip cream above cherry syrup .
  4. Spread it evenly .
  5. Place the other half of cake and spread the cherry syrup and whip cream .
  6. Cover the entire cake with whip cream using a spoon or spatula .
  7. Decorate the cake in the centre with chocolate shavings  and also around the cake .
  8. Use piping bags filled with whip cream and decorate the cake.
  9. Finally place some cherries on top .


Note :
  1. The baking time might vary depending on the thickness of the cooking vessel and the type of gas stove , so check the cake after 45 minutes.
  2. Even if the frosting doesn’t come perfectly , don’t worry . The benefit of the Black Forest cake is that we could cover it with chocolate shavings .
